This year in 8th grade you will be learning all about US History! We will start off talking about our government and how it was formed. We will then move on to see how this new government was used to help grow and expand our country. I hope that you all have a wonderful semester in class and find what we are learning to be exciting and informative!!
1. Each marking period a minimum of fifteen grades will be assigned to each student. Grades will be assigned either as formative or summative.
Formative assignments (those where students are forming knowledge) will count as 30% of the final grade. Such assignments may include:
Summative assignments (those where students demonstrate a summary of their knowledge) will count as 70% of the final grade. Such assignments may include:
Class work
Classwork
Homework
Quizzes (double grade)
Warm-ups/class participation
Tests (triple grade)
Some projects (double grade)
Writing assignments
Some projects (double grade)
NOTE: In Power School check for any possible comments on your child’s assignment by clicking on the letter next to the grade.
LATE WORK: All assignments are expected to be turned in on time on the due date. Assignments turned in after the due date will receive a grade that will be lowered 5% each day that it is late.
Make up work: It is the student’s responsibility to get make up work upon returning from an absence! After an absence, a student has two days for every day absent to make up work for full credit. For extended absences, it is the student’s responsibility to arrange to complete missing assignments within a mutually agreeable time frame.
REDO GUIDELINES:
Redos of summative assignments, not classified as unit assessments, are acceptable with the following stipulations:
The student must make arrangements with the teacher for redo within a mutually agreed amount of time.
RETEST GUIDELINES:
ALL students can retake each unit assessment once.
Students will get the better grade.
Students must make arrangements/contract with the teacher for the retest within a mutually agreed amount of time.
Retakes are not to be given during class time.
All grading procedures will follow guidelines outlined in “Cecil County Public Schools Grading and Reporting.” || Percentage
